Calm & Connected: Parent Coaching

Parenting Children and Teens with ADHD & Executive Function Challenges

Created by ADHD Parent Coach Cindy Goldrich, Ed.M., ADHD-CCSP

We’re excited to share that Child’s Play Pediatric Therapy (CPPT) is now offering Parent Coaching classes called Calm & Connected: Parenting Children and Teens with ADHD and Executive Functioning Challenges.

We’re especially proud to announce that Carla Hamilton, OTD, MOT, OTR, is now a certified parent coach and will be leading these classes!

Calm & Connected is a 7-session live-interactive workshop series that will help you deeply understand your child’s challenges and give you the tools to parent more confidently. We explore communication tools so they will hear you more clearly, be more open to speaking, and feel more heard. We discuss how to collaborate with them so they become more accountable, feel more empowered, and feel they have more say in their lives. We discuss setting appropriate expectations to know we are supporting our children without enabling them. And we will address when and how to impose effective consequences that will teach skills and not just trigger more negative behavior.

Session Overviews:

  • Session 1 – Understand the Social & Emotional impact of ADHD & Executive Function Challenges on Learning, Motivation, Behavior, & the Family System: Explore how these issues affect learning, motivation, behavior, and the entire family system. (Also available as a single session if you cannot make it to the rest of the sessions).

  • Session 2 – Remaining Calm & Connected: Master techniques for creating a calm home environment for children with ADHD.

  • Session 3- Improving Communication: Improving Communication: Learn strategies for better communication that foster trust and cooperation.

  • Session 4 – Encouraging Collaboration: Discover ways to encourage teamwork and collaboration in your family.

  • Session 5 – Achieving Clarity & Consistency: Implement clear and consistent parenting techniques that support your child’s development

  • Session 6 – Establishing Effective Consequences: Understand how to set boundaries and create effective consequences that support long-term growth.

  • Session 7 – Making Better Choices: Empower your child to make better decisions with enhanced executive function skills.

Parenting can be a balancing act!

Parenting can be incredibly stressful, especially when your child faces the complexities of ADHD, Executive Function challenges, Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), or Learning differences. As parents, it’s easy to misinterpret disrespect, lack of effort, and defiance as signs that we need to be stricter or enforce tighter boundaries. But often, this approach only leads to more chaos and stress.
